What has the National Sea Grant Offshore Wind Energy Liaison Team been up to?
The National Sea Grant Offshore Wind Energy Liaison Team aims to facilitate learning and capacity building of our Sea Grant Community of Practice and any interested and affected parties so that they can more effectively engage in the offshore wind energy development process.
The Team has hosted multiple learning opportunities and Community of Practice events on topics related to offshore wind energy and sustainable ocean planning (multi-use). Please view the below blog posts for a snapshot of our efforts.
Effects and Impacts of EMF Radiation from Undersea Cables on Marine Species
Learn more about what the science is saying about the effects of undersea cables on the marine environment.
Be Part of the Process: Community Input Informs Public Decision-making
The Town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association and the Liaison team up to educate the public on the state’s offshore wind cable permitting process and how the public can engage in this topic.
Collaboration is key for responding to issues at the intersection of fisheries and offshore wind
One concern about offshore wind energy development is the disruption of historical National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) datasets as large research vessels may not be able to complete some types of surveys in offshore wind farms. The University of Rhode Island and NOAA are partnering to combat this issue.
Floating Offshore Wind Shot
Floating offshore wind is a very new technology and, while it will allow offshore wind development in deeper waters, significant investment in research and technology advancement are underway.
